This weekend I’m off to Brighton to photograph Akin, he’s agreed to be in the film so I will post up the results of my trip next week!

This is a clip from my favourite documentary, Grey Gardens by the Maysles brothers. I love the eccentricity and it is filmed in a very thoughtful way, often it seems as if the camera is not there at all and at other times the women play up to the camera by singing and dancing.
Also heard that they are going to make a feature film of this next year with Drew Barrymore. Excited!
as mixed race style? I don’t think it can be categorised. There is no stereotype, no mould, no trend. Each mixed race person has a unique racial and cultural background.
Some mixed race individuals may adopt trends associated with one half/quarter/eighth of their background. Some may reject these trends altogether. Some may adopt styles from all over the place.
I am not making this film to categorise “mixed-race style” because I don’t think such a thing could ever exist.
I am more interested in people of from mixed backgrounds who reject stereotypical style and create their own style that is as unique as their DNA.
These portraits are a mixture of style and culture. The subjects look proud against their settings. I like the use of high contrast black and white and the ‘off-center’ compostion.

Yesterday I visited the Andy Warhol exhibition “OTHER VOICES, OTHER ROOMS” at the Hayward Gallery. The Polaroids / Photostrips / Contact Sheets, although a very small part of the exhibition were my favourite part. I love the screen tests too, especially the Edie one! OUTER & INNER SPACE was another favourite especially the use of twin screens and Edies image on the TV behind her.
